Maybe TCU isn’t quite what they appeared to be in the non-conference portion of this season. And maybe Oklahoma State isn’t quite as bad as I may have originally thought.
The Cowboys almost pulled off the upset in Ames over No. 17 Iowa State but a blocked 3 at the end saved the Cyclones. The Pokes hardly played anybody out of conference with their marquee non-conference games including a struggling Memphis team, average South Carolina, Tulsa and Oregon State to start the season, but have looked fairly impressive since and hold a 2-1 conference record headed in to Tuesday’s game at Allen Fieldhouse. After that, they head to Norman for Bedlam on Saturday.
Texas is reeling. The No. 10 Longhorns are going to take a huge hit in the national rankings and the conference standings after a blowout loss at home to rival Oklahoma and a decisive loss at unranked Oklahoma State on Saturday. The Horns’ lone conference win was their first game, at Texas Tech by nine. Hopefully Rick Barnes can get them to regroup as either Myles Turner or Jonathan Holmes have seemed to disappear during Big 12 games.
Kansas State hasn’t looked too bad themselves, with wins over TCU and on the road at Oklahoma in overtime. If they can keep the momentum going (doubtful considering a trip to Waco this Saturday) they may have a shot.
